Ember at No. 5. Dave Killick, Tommy Heaney. You know the deal by now, I’m sure. Pontcanna, nose to tail eating, pasta, frequently changing menus. It’s an eye-catching an opening as Cardiff has had for some time. With Uisce and Heaney’s, Ember At No. 5 forms the third point of The Tommy Triangle, a mystical Read More
This ‘Twosday’ meal at Pontcanna’s Thomas was one of those ‘invitation’ things. It’s important you should know that. You’ll have your views on the authenticity of these things I’m sure, but transparency matters, doesn’t it? You should know I was asked to Thomas, and that I didn’t pay for anything we ate or drank. There’s a flag in the window of Cathays Terrace’s Bar 105. Crimson, royal blue, an eight-pointed star: the colours of The Philippines. After pandemic upheaval, during which she set aside her catering business to work on the front line, Michelle Green is cooking the food of her homeland. She brings plenty of experience, from prestigious Read More
My phone buzzes. ‘The Flora in Cathays has got a chef to take over their kitchen and I think he’s going to do something special here. I just had his lamb flatbread and it blew my mind. The chef has a solid background and the menu looks good, I think he could really benefit from Read More

We are here for the new lunch deal, which runs on Thursday and Friday in Westgate St, and Read More
Let me tell you a tale of fried chicken. I was in a good mood, the sort when someone stops you in Queen Street to tell you your hair looks good. And if it soon becomes obvious they’re trying to get me to sign up to something, you still have to take the wins where Read More
This blog is a very simple thing.
I won’t try to sell you any hand lotion, exercise programmes, coffee syrups or Patagonian nose flutes. You won’t find tips on dating, ‘wellness’ or yoga mats.
I write because I love it (and food, as indicated by my increasing girth). Greed happens to be my Deadly Sin of choice, but at least it is never shy of providing me with subject matter.
A simple thing, then: all you get is me wittering on semi-coherently about places I’ve eaten at; hence a ‘restaurant blog’ rather than a ‘food blog’, although there are a few recipes scattered throughout.
From mezze to Michelin ‘fine dining’ and all points in between.
