Hot Pot Spot, Wellfield Road, Cardiff: review

On July 5, 2018 by The Plate Licked Clean

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. There’s still plenty of meat on that bone. Now- you take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato. Baby, you got a stew going!” Carl Weathers to Dr Tobias Fünke, Arrested Development. If your idea of going out to eat involves paying someone else to cook you Read More

Coyote Ugly, St Mary St, Cardiff: menu review

On June 24, 2018 by The Plate Licked Clean

If Boney M have taught us anything about Tsarist Russia, it’s this: not only was Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin a lover of the Russian queen, but he was a “cat that really was gone”. Furthermore, as “Russia’s greatest love machine”, “to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear”. So far, so good. Not all shared Read More

The Park House, Cardiff: a la carte menu, May 2018

On May 21, 2018 by The Plate Licked Clean

We dined at The Park House as guests of the restaurant. All food and drink was complementary. All opinions tumble from what passes for my brain, and they do so independently. No review or social media activity was requested. Transparency is important.   The great Bill Shankly once said, “Football is a simple game, made Read More

Tommy Heaney announces venue of new Cardiff restaurant (Exclusive- May 2018)

Fans of ‘in this day in history’ are entitled to feel a little spoilt with June 25th. there’s plenty for everyone: whether it’s the start of the Korean War (bad), Ricky Gervais’ and George Michael’s birthdays (good) or Custer’s Last Stand (make your own mind up on that one), the date has more than its Read More

The Admiral St David’s, Principal St David’s Hotel, Cardiff Bay: all-day menu review May 2018

On May 8, 2018 by The Plate Licked Clean

We dined at The Admiral St David’s as guests of the hotel. All food and drink was complementary. All opinions tumble from what passes for my brain, and they do so independently. Transparency is important. And on that topic, when you’ve finished reading this review (or before, I’m easy) please have a look at this Read More

Dining at Home with La Belle Assiette

On April 15, 2018 by The Plate Licked Clean

A few weeks ago La Belle Assiette got in touch and offered me a crack at finally trying their dine at home service. Private dining is the name of the game: they promise to bring a restaurant experience into your home with a minimum of hassle so you can just enjoy your guests without worrying Read More

The Plate Licked Clean

This blog is a very simple thing.

I won’t try to sell you any hand lotion, exercise programmes, coffee syrups or Patagonian nose flutes.  You won’t find tips on dating, ‘wellness’ or yoga mats.

I write because I love it (and food, as indicated by my increasing girth). Greed happens to be my Deadly Sin of choice, but at least it is never shy of providing me with subject matter.

A simple thing, then: all you get is me wittering on semi-coherently about places I’ve eaten at; hence a ‘restaurant blog’ rather than a ‘food blog’, although there are a few recipes scattered throughout.

From mezze to Michelin ‘fine dining’ and all points in between.
